            Laura was born October 2nd, 1897 to Tracy and Estella Betts. She can recall sliding down hill with Leamon, when he passed her too close and put a gash in her finger. Her mother put something on it to cleanse it, but it made it hurt a lot more. Her uncle Gus Johnston happened to be there and gave her a little bag of pink mint candy. There was another time that she, Leamon and Paul got the hay in and Leamon and Paul received a bike but she only got a thanks. She attended Northside High school and graduated from there. Laura was converted in 1912 in an evangelistic meeting in Corning. The Evangelist was Dr. Stowell. She joined the North Baptist Church in Corning.

            Laura started teaching in Stickler town, in 1919. On Monday she would take the trolly to Brown Hollow Road, walk 3 miles up to Stickler Town and there she boarded during the week while she taught. The 2nd place she taught was at Catlin Center. Monday she would board a train and go to Catlin Center. She boarded with a Trustee that lived about a mile from there. She had about 20 students starting from 2nd grade and up. The 3rd place she taught was at Gibson. She taught the 2nd and 3rd grades. She taught 4 years in the country school.

            Laura went to Courtland Normal School. She graduated from there in 1925. She went to Port Dickinson and taught there 34 years. She taught the 2nd grade all the time she was there.

            Laura was the the bride's maid for Nora Robbins Brown, Kathryn Miller Betts and Wilda Clark Nixon.

            Laura joined the Baptist Church on the East side if Binghamton. She became good friends of the Morgans. Two years later after the death of Madge, Bill Morgan's wife, Laura married Bill on March 21st, 1953. They were both 55.

            Wilson Morgan was born July 28th, 1897 to Wlessis and Anna Watson Morgan. Bill had 3 children by Madge: Bruce was born (Living - Withheld), Bob was born (Living - Withheld), and Marilyn was born (Living - Withheld). He died November 22nd, 1984. He is buried in Chenango Valley Cemetery Hillcrest, New York beside Madge.

            Laura became a mother to Bills 3 children and was loved by them as a mother and a grandmother. Right up to the last few days of her life she always prayed for them and especially for any problems that they had. She was thought of as a second mother to each of them.

            The last few months of her life she lived with a stepdaughter, Marilyn in Mississippi. Laura passed away April 12th, 1995 at 6:00AM. She is buried in Chenango Valley Cemetery Hillcrest, New York with Mill and Madge Morgan.

            Laura F. Morgan, 97, was called home by her lord on April 12, 1995 at her residence in Moss Point, Mississippi. She was born October 2, 1897 in Corning, NY. She was a member of the North Baptist Church of Corning and attended East Moss Point Baptist Church, Moss Point, Mississippi.
            She was predeceased in death by her husband, Wilson B. Morgan and a son, Bruce Morgan, both of Binghamton; 3 sisters, Ethel Perry, Eva Nixson and Florence Carleton and 1 brother , Leamon Betts. She is survived by 1 daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Prentiss Fisher of Moss Point, Mississippi; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Betty Morgan of Narragansett, RI., 3 brothers and 2 sisters-in-laws, Paul Betts of Painted Post, Clarence and Florence Betts of Tampa, FL and Glen and Gertrude Betts of Addison; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
            Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM from the Wm. R. Chase & Sons, Inc. funeral home, 727 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY. The Rev. Glen Gevert will officiate. Burial will be in Chenango Valley Cemetery.
            Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 until 2:00. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday at 2:00 from the North Baptist Church in Corning, New York.
