Miss Ruth Taylor Engaged To Wed
            Mrs. Hilma Taylor of 334 Commerce Street announced the engagement of her daughter, Ruth A., to James S. Osterhoudt of 188 East Second Street.
            Miss Taylor is the daughter of Mrs. Hilma Taylor and Frank Taylor of Washington, D.C. Mr. Osterhoudt is the son of Mrs. Ruby Potter, Westfield, Pa. and the late Howard Osterhoudt.
            Both are employed at the Corning Glass Works and plan to be married in the near future.

Ruth Anita Osterhoudt
            Corning, N.Y. — Ruth Anita (Taylor) Osterhoudt, age 92, of Corning passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads. Ruth was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 14, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Hilma (Carlson) Taylor. She was predeceased by sister Grace and brother Theodore.
            She was employed by Corning Glass Works, Corning, New York as an inspector. She retired in 1981 and recently celebrated her 60th anniversary with the company.
            She is survived by her daughter Sheila (Brian) Carlblom of Marion, IN; son James Osterhoudt, Jr. of Corning; sister Florence Kelce of Corona, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
            Ruth was devoted to her family and relished the times they could be together. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working on her “puzzle books”. She also looked forward to making jellies and jams during the summer months and baking during the holiday season. For many years she actively engaged in crocheting afghans, baby sets, and dolls.
            Ruth was committed to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her church, Grace Fellowship.
            Calling hours will be Monday, January 24, 2011 10 a.m.-12 noon at Phillips Funeral Home, Corning, with a memorial service to immediately follow the calling hours at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oldfield Cemetery, Hornby on January 24, 2011 at approximately 2:00 p.m.

James Sidney Osterhoudt, Sr.
            ELKLAND, Pa. -- James S. Osterhoudt Sr., 70, of Main Street, formerly of Watkins Road, Pine Valley, N.Y., died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at home.
            He was a retired employee of Thatcher Glass.
            Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lucille Osterhoudt; a son, James Osterhoudt Jr; two daughters, Helen Osterhoudt of Pine Valley, N.Y. and Diana Van Gorden, of Horseheads, N.Y.; a brother, Cecil Osterhoudt of Knoxville; a sister, Marie Blanchard of Meadsville.
            Calling hours will be noon-1 p.m. Friday at Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads.
            Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
