Rodman Sisson Hayes
(Notes) RODMAN SISSON HAYES (Richard1) was born December 4, 1809 in Milo, Yates County, New York and died July 11, 1876 in New York. He married CHARLOTTE WOOD January 9, 1833.
Notes for RODMAN SISSON HAYES:
  • Occupation: Farmer.
  • 1850 census: Orange, Steuben Co., NY - Rodman Hays.
  • 1860 census: Orange, Schuyler Co., NY - Rodman S. Hays.
  • 1870 (Robert Hays), 1875 (Rodman Hayse) census: Corning, Steuben Co., NY.
  •             There is a strong possibility Rodman and Charlotte are buried in Pritchard Cemetery on Pulteney Street. They lived in Knoxville which is now Corning's northside. Rodman worked at the Erie Railroad yard at the end of West Market Street, where Wegman's grocery store now stands. The Erie yard was just across the river on Corning's southside and about six to eight blocks from Pritchard Cemetery. This will never be proven because The First Congregational Church of Christ now stands on the site previously occupied by Pritchard Cemetery. Before the church could be built, the few remaining tombstone were moved to the back corner of the lot.
The only other cemetery located on the northside is Deckertown Cemetery, but is twice is far away from the Erie yard as Pritchard Cemetery. But, this too is possible as Rodman and Charlotte's grandson, George Orrin Taylor buried his first wife in Deckertown. Today, there are no records for either cemetery known to exist.
